Domakonda is a city that is located in Nizamabad district of Telangana and it is also called as Dorakonda. The city is sited at a distance of 40 km away from its district Headquarters Nizamabad and 100 km away from the state capital Hyderabad. The city is well-known for its monuments and pilgrims in Telangana state. 

People from all religions and communities reside in Domakonda and they mostly speak Telugu language. As per 2011 population census Domakonda city holds a total population of 13648 people within its boundary. The city packs 3265 families within its jurisdiction. 

Geography of Domakonda

Domakonda city is elevated at a height of 559 meters above sea level and it got its coordinates at 18° 15' 13" North latitude and 78° 26' 16" East longitude. The city is bounded by Machareddy Mandal in the North, Bhiknur Mandal in the South, Gambhiraopet Mandal in the East and Kamareddy Mandal in the west.

A big pond is sited on the southern border of the city and it is also surrounded by numerous ponds or talaabs like Domakonda pond in the north and many more. A river stream flows close to the southern border of the city. Summers are hot and winters are cool in Domakonda.

Domakonda Fort in Domakonda

Domakonda fort is a very popular landmark of the city featuring the defensive architecture in combination of Hindu and Muslim fort architecture. It is estimated to be 400 years old and it was established by Kamineni Vamsam. Arched gateway entrance of the fort portrays the Asaf Jaahi architecture style. The compound wall of the fort has numerous big round and square fortresses. Domakonda fort has two places and a pilgrim within its premise.

The Sai Baba temple in Domakonda is another famous temple in the city that brings numerous devotees every week to its premise. The temple is established in the year 1992 from the donation offered by Shri Paskanti Balayya.

The Shivalayam in the city dedicated to Lord Shiva is a very famous temple in Domakonda which was established by the rulers of Kakatiya clan. The popularity and the distinctiveness of the temple is the idol of Lord Shiva and the temple architecture. The residing deity Lord Shiva idol is about 65 feet high erected in a yoga posture carved out from a single rock. 

The temple is built on unique Katatiyan building architecture style on a 3 foot high platform made of several layers of rock beds. The temple roof is supported by 18 carved stone pillars. The statue of Nandi a prime element in Lord Shiva temples is sited outside the Domakonda Shiva temple. The temple has no flag most in its premise. Recently the temple is completely disassembled and assembled again.
